Paleri Manikyam Review – A wonder which happens once in a while

Watched Paleri Manikyam, Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha (A midnight murder story) from PVR, Bangalore.

Directly jumping to my rating – 4 out of 5 stars

I am short of words to describe this brilliant movie directed by Renjith and performed to perfection by Mammootty. The movie belongs to Ranjith and Mammootty.

Palerimanikyam is a strong movie which haunts you for a while after leaving the theater. Not even a single scene, character or dialogue can be removed from the movie. Direction is top class. Narration style is good. Dialogues are excellent. Art direction and camera work are good and suits the theme of this period movie.

Kudos to Ranjith for making this movie. I cant think of any other director who can execute this movie so perfectly.

Paleri Manikyam Poster

Mammootty plays a double (?) role in this movie. Mammootty has once again proved that he is one of the best actors in India with his exceptional portrayal of Ahmed Haji, a cruel Muslim landlord. His looks, mannerisms and body language are so real that you wont feel that Mammootty is acting in the screen.
On the other hand, Mammootty as Haridas looks young, smart and cool.

With Paleri and Loudspeaker, Mammootty is a strong candidate for the Best actor National award in 2009.

Most of the actors in the movie are new faces and they have performed their roles well. These actors come with theater backgrounds. Thanks to Renjith for bringing out so many talented artists.

I dont know how many have noticed a hidden story in the movie. That of Haridas’s family life. There is an inner meaning to that part and the fact that it is not explicitly told makes it even more beautiful.

My Rating for movie: 4/5

My rating for Ahmed Haji (Mammootty) : 4.99/5 – I am sure there is a lot of acting skills left in his career. Hope his best is yet to come. Long live Mammookka.

A must watch for all serious movie lovers. The strong theme, visuals, violence and language are not advisable for the weak hearted and children. The film has got A certificate.
