Renjith’s Kayyoppu Review

Am wondering why Renjith didn’t market such a wonderful movie.  Kayyoppu wasn’t marketed properly and got a silent release in a very few centers. In Cochin, it was released in Little Shenoys. I am sure, if the movie was distributed properly, it would have got a decent run in box office.

If you are a movie buff and if you like the good old ‘budhijeevi’ kind of Malayalam movies of 80′s, then don’t even read this review. Go and watch this movie as soon as possible.

The original DVD of the movie can be bought from Moser Baer site – Kayyoppu DVD

Kayyoppu

Kayyoppu

Kayyoppu is a brilliant piece of work by Renjith. The movie is very short and is less than 2 hours. The movie goes in its own pace.

Script and direction were too good. The scenes shot in the night and the scenes where it rains were shot beautifully and takes you to another world. The scenes in the police station was really touching.

Mammootty as a writer has excelled in his role. Mukesh, who plays a book publisher is apt for that role.  Khusboo, Neena, Anoop Menon and the room boy have also done a good job.

And i didn’t quite digest the climax of the movie. I still don’t understand why Renjith gave such an abrupt ending to the movie. But the rest of the movie is more than sufficient to bring your mind to an excited level.

Nandanam, Kayyoppu, Thirakkatha and Paleri Manikyam – Is Ranjith the next Padmarajan in making?

Already waiting for Mammootty – Renjith team’s next movie, Ravu Mayumbol

My Rating – 7.5/10

A must watch for all serious movie lovers.

Story and Direction – Renjith

Cinematography – Manoj Pillai

Starring – Mammootty, Mukesh, Anoop Menon and Khusboo
